Hello yes hermetic means air tight seal when talking about compressors and hemeticaly sealed compressor is welded closed so it cannot be taken apart this is common in residential or light commercial applications. Larger or more expensive system will use semi hermetic compressors these can be taken apart and rebuilt on site were as a hermetic or ( tin can as we call them) once it has failed it is disposed of.
