Customer Question

I have a Lennonx elite heat pump. Last year the cooling stopped working and a service tech diagnosed as a bad TVX valve and replaced it. The system started working again but froze up 5 different time during the next 3 summer months. The system is 6 years old and had no issues prior to this. This year the AC will has not run and right after the outside unit turns on it trip the a/c break on the main house panel. Any suggestions of what I should look at?

Optional Information:
Brand: Lennox elite
Type of HVAC: Other

Already Tried:
Heat pump. No action to fix taken so far this year and I still need to pull the panel to take a look at the trouble shooting leds.

if you are tripping breakers you either have a bad compressor or a bad capacitor. Inspect the capacitor for bulging or oozing. if bulging or oozing replace it. I would bet the compressor is bad though because it sounds like you are low on refrigerant, hence the freezing. If you run a unit low on refrigerant the oil will not circulate through the compressor and there is a possibility of pulling air into the system if there is a leak and ruining the compressor.

Inspect the capacitor and if it looks good you will most likely have to replace the compressor.
