Which thermostat is better for acccuracy & reliability & performance-Honeywell-White Rogers or Robertshaw? Also what is your take on Lux thermostats? Are they as cheap & bad as I have heard?

My choice is Honeywell. We've used all three and 4 or 5 times as many Honeywells. Fewer total problem with Honeywell even though we've used 5 times as many

Lux is an ok cheap thermostat

I've seen some last for years and some fail in a couple years

So even though you have installed honeywell t-stats 4 or 5 more times than the others-the others gave you more problems over time?

Rickheatdoc :

Yes WR and Robertshaw were more trouble but still acceptable

Customer :

I have heard that Honeywell used to be the leader of quality-but lately that quality has slipped and that WR is now the symbol of better quality. When I saw the YOUTUBE video called the QUALITY OF WHITE-ROGERS THERMOSTATS & all the harsh testing procedures that EMERSON subjects their t-stats to, I wonder if WR is better quality. I to prefer Honeywell, but am starting to question how well their t-stats are made?

Any of the 3 you mentioned are good stats. If Honeywell's quality has slipped we haven't seen it in failures yet. If it was my house I would use Honeywell (I do actually). Just bought a new one a couple months ago

If you don't mind me asking-what model are you using & how has it performed for you?

Rickheatdoc :

I have a rather complicated system and my thermostat is specific to that control system so my experience with it wouldn't help you I'm afraid

Customer :

I am using the Vision Pro 8000 touch screen, it seems to work fine-but seems to feel warmer in the day & colder in the evening in the house even though the temp is set the same all day long.

Rickheatdoc :

It depends on where the thermostat is located. Location can make a huge difference.

Customer :

Needless to say, this causes my wife to complain about the temp at night, but I don't want to be turning the t-stat up and down all the time-just makes me wonder if the thermistor is sensing correctly.

Rickheatdoc :

If you are in one room and the stat in another it can make all the difference in the world. It may be as simple as moving the stat.

Solar heat gain is another big factor
