Customer Question

Ariston micro combi. it will work fine for a few days or a few hours , it seems to be random in terms of when it happens. the heating and /or hot water will be fine. the next time you go to use it the red light is on and nothing ignites , this is the same on the timer, and on the summer settings . it can work fine for days , other times it will be fine at bedtime and not in the morning etc .. it always jumps back into life when reset button pressed. any advice/ideas.

Already Tried:
had engineer out , he serviced it , changed the clock and couldnt find the fault he said to call him out when the fault developed and it just kept tripping out so he could work out what it was, since then it is not getting worse, its very randon but trips 2 or 3 times a week,

Rick Mather :

Really sounds like the Flame Rod is not seeing flame all the time try cleaning it with scotch brite and or fine steel wool. It is the device the flame hits to prove flame a rod sticking up thru porchian insulator, just shine up the metal part they get a glaze over them and don't work well

Customer :

Hi Rick thanks for that, it sounds reasonable, where do i find this flame rod, I am handy but not over familiar with the inside of a Boiler, but am game to try. so any further advice or instruction would be good. thanks again

Rick Mather :

Follow gas piping from house to boiler and it should lead you too the gas valve and from there you should see piping to where the flame is detected by flame rod
