I have a honeywell thermostat. I set it on AUTO for 70 degrees F. However, it does not turn on when it goes below that and has been going down to 64 degrees. When i switch it to ON from AUTO, then it kicks in a turns on. But i dont want to leave it on "ON", is my thermostat broken?? PS. I have replaced the batteries and there has been no change.
Optional Information: Make : IDK Model : IDK Already Tried: Switching out batteries, changing the filter. Turning it off then back on again. The thermostat is kicking on the heater.
Welcome to Just Answer, I will do my best to help you with your problem
It sounds like you may need a new thermostat or you could have a problem with your heating unit
when you turn it to on you're just turning the blower on, not the heat
What kind of problem with the unit? It turns on when i switch it to "ON"
but i dont want it ot stay on
but the house warms up
What brand and model furnace do you have
because the thermostat starts to increase
one second let me check
The only ON?Auto switch is the fan switch. You can switch from HEAT to COOL but with most thermostats when you go from AUTO to ON it's the blower
ok
im not sure of the mdoel
Then it's unlikely we'll be able to troubleshoot a problem with the furnace but there is one thing you can try
Take the cover off the thermostat (turn the switch on the side of the furnace off first) then connect the wires that are connected to the R(h) & W terminals together
wow i cant do that. lol sorry
If the furnace fires up then you probably have a faulty thermostat
the pilot lights
Then you'll have to call in a pro to help with this
but the second "pilot" doesnt kick in
to light the rest of them
it does initally light though
You need to call in a pro. It sounds like you aren't comfortable working on this unit
ok thank you
