This answer was rated:

For some reason my water heater keeps faulting out. The water gets real hot for a day or so. So hot it can burn. Then the breaker on the front trips and then I have no hot water until I reset it. What is causing this?

Rickheatdoc :

Welcome to Just Answer, I will do my best to help you solve your problem

Rickheatdoc :

when the reset trips it's usually because of a bad thermostat

Rickheatdoc :

we typically change both thermostats since it is difficult and time consuming to figure out which one is faulty

JACUSTOMER-nhew5gr5- :

How do I change the thermostats?

Rickheatdoc :

If jumping out the thermostat didn't fire it up changing the stat won't help

JACUSTOMER-nhew5gr5- :

I haven't jumpered out anything. It is currently working. How do I change out the thermostats?

Rickheatdoc :

sorry I confused this one with another question

Rickheatdoc :

Don't attempt to change the stats unless you are familiar with electrical components. To change the stats you turn off the power remove the access panels and swap the wires lead for lead om the old stat to the new one

JACUSTOMER-nhew5gr5- :

I am pretty handy on items like this as long as I understand the problem. This will help me proceed. Thanx.
