I believe my furnace just had a flashback but not for sure.

Resolved Question:

I believe my furnace just had a flashback but not for sure. We heard a small exsplosion and saw what i would call a fire ball through the vents on the door to the furnace room. it was strong enough to move the door. i do not smell gas of any kind. Any idea what could be wrong

When was the last time it was serviced it may need good cleaning and safety check
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
Nothing is on fire. the pilot light is on still. I think this has happened before when we were not home. we have come home and the door was moved just how it was after this happened and neither of us and opened the door.

Well there could be a draft problem which would cause this when was the last time it was serviced?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
I am not sure. This is my first year living here. Is it hard? Could i do it to myself?
Expert:  Rick Mather replied 7 years ago.
Well if you have the knowledge and courage to try I suppose you could

So your saying I should not do it myself?
Expert:  Rick Mather replied 7 years ago.
Well to have the proper tools to measure gas pressure and draft might be hard and with gas I don't like to fool around since if wrong it can be dangerous
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
I understand. My landlord maintance man is not the brightest and I am not sure I fully trust him. How do i know if he really fixes it. Thats why I am paying to find out whats wrong with it so I can make sure he really fixes it. I really dont want a fire while we are at work my animals are important to me.

I would insist that he prove he is qualified to work on furnaces and has had the training
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
Should he have a card or some kind of prof to show me when he arrives?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
How much would it cost if i paid to have someone come fix it
Expert:  Rick Mather replied 7 years ago.
I would say around the $100.00 -$150.00 range
