The fan on my heat pump is not running but the unit is running.

Resolved Question:

The fan on my heat pump is not running but the unit is running. Could it be caused by the extreme cold weather?

What u r describing is normal for a HP. The coils are icing up, it is difficult to see on a Trane because of the louvered cabinet. After 10-15 minutes, the fan should start back running. If the fan does not start after 15 minutes. Most likely it is a defrost control problem. Just let it run, and in a few minutes the fan should reengage. I hope this helps.
