Ideally, and if it does not get better, you can get your vet to take a small skin biopsy at the site to know what exact process is going on... (Pin worm is high on the list, but sometimes you have to deal with fungal infections, sometimes with auto-immunes issues).

But the ivermectin might just fix him.

Some pin worms are resistant to it, so have your horse tested for pin worms if the process continues after a week or so (different than regular fecal float.. takes a "tape test")

Can apply a mixture of silersulfadiazine and hydrocortizone cream to the area meanwhile

what is silersulfadiazine and do I need to get either of the creams from a vet? What is a tape test? I also have a great pic of the skin problem that might help you to make a diagnosis.. I caN E-MAIL OR SEND VIA CELL. aWAITING YOUR REPLY

You can post the picture in this site using the little tree icon
Silversufadiazine and hydrocortisone cream are available at your vet but also human pharmacies and some tack stores
A tape test is a special test your farrier conducts for pinworms (using tape around the anus if your horse)
