Customer Question

Hi Dr. ***** *****. Our 28-year old Arabian mare has a swelling at the bottom of the belly on her left side, about in the middle between the front and rear legs. It has a diameter of about 4" and might be an edema as it acts like memory foam as far as we can tell. It doesn't seem to be painful at all. She had it for a few days (we first thought it was just the long winter hair standing up...) and seems to have stayed about the same in size. Otherwise she seems healthy, is eating normally, etc. Could this be something serious that a vet should examine, or should we observe it for a few more days?
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: More details like what? For example, she's by herself so it couldn't be that she was kicked by another horse, but rarely she does lie down in the pasture, so a rock could have caused the swelling.'m Andrew by the way.
JA: OK got it. Last thing — Horse Veterinarians generally expect a deposit of about $18 to help with your type of question (you only pay if satisfied). Now I'm going to take you to a page to place a secure deposit with JustAnswer. Don't worry, this chat is saved. After that, we will finish helping you.

Hi there, this is Dr. Gabby. Is your girl on any medications at this time? Is the swelling warm to the touch?
