Good day. My mare has been diagnosed with severe DJD and arthritis and we tried everything from cortisone injections to I-rap treatments and many more with limited success. I heard about a product called Adequan. Please tell me where I can find this product in SA! This is my last hope for her or she must be put down.

Good Morning and welcome to Just answer. I am Dr. Loretta, a licensed veterinarian and I am happy to answer your question.
Where is this arthritis? Has your vet tried Butazolidin and/or Banamine? This can be very helpful as well as Tramadol which can be purchased online or from your vet. Adequan is used often for this and can be very effective in these types of situations and I would urge you to try this. This can be purchased online in the following sites.I am not sure how you would get this to SA but I know it is possible. Also, check with your vet to find their distributor since this product is widely used in equine medicine.

Does that help?
Hi Dr
Thank you for your quick reply. I will mention this to my vet and see if this has been used. I am not sure as we used quite a range of drugs already.
Good for you....Adequan is often used in conjunction with other systemic medications when the arthritis is so serious. I hope your vet can find a source for this medication from the information I gave you.
The arthritis is in the right foot (the fetlock area) and she almost limps from pain someday. I have friends in Florida who are prepared to ship it to me and my vet here will receive the medicine but our customs requires all relevant documents. See as far as I understand Smartpac does not supply anyone else but vets so how will we get it in the first place? My vet is more than happy to liase with them to bring it in for her.
This only requires a prescription from your vet and they will call to verify or your vet can fax them a prescription. This is the same with any distributor. I know it can be done because I am in Honduras and can get medications with my prescriptions here. Keep trying....
Could you by any chance write a perscription and email it to me or is it best for my vet to do so?
Unfortunately, we can only prescribe, by law, after a physical exam o your vet is the only one that can do this for you...sorry! I wish I could help.
thank you so much for all your help Dr. Your help has been so valuable to me!!!!
