My 18y old horse has had intermittent seizures for 14 hours now and has only been lying down. He has tried to get up a few times but every time he is trying he gets seizures again. Also when he is breathing out the sound is not normal. There are no wounds no ticks and he has been regularly vaccinated for influenza and tetanus since he was 4. He spends his days on the field with other horses normally. He has never had anything like this before.
Optional Information: Type of Animal: Horse Gender: Male Age: 18 Name of Horse: Mombol Already Tried: He has had glucose. We have tried to help the horse get up, but it's not working.
where are you located geographically?
has he had any bloodwork? in older horses, liver issues can lead to seizure like activity (hyperammonemia/ hepatic encephalopathy), so bloodwork is necessary
any other signs with the seizures? lip deviation, ear/eye droopiness?
