what can cause blood in horse urine?
Optional Information: Type of Animal: horse Gender: male Age: 9 Name of Horse: Sunny Already Tried: nothing
Hi there. I'm Dr. Hinson and I'd like to help you with your question.
Why do you think your horse has blood in her urine?
Did you see the urine come out red or are you just seeing red spots in the snow?
The snow is red
He is otherwise very healthy
red in the snow
This is normal. It is a common occurrence in the winter time in which the horse’s urine turns red in the snow. This is due to the proteins in the urine oxidizing in the snow.
There is nothing to worry about.
It is actually very rare for a horse to pass blood in the urine.
My best advice to actually watch him urinate to see if the urine is coming out red.
Very good that makes sense. Last week I watched all the horses and no red.
It shows up later
Yes, that's just the proteins oxidizing. That's good news!
You can not imagine how relieved I am
Thank You
