Flies are eating my horses alive! Even with spraying, brushing and clearing all manure from the stalls and pasture, the welts are spreading and under the bellies and groin areas, it looks like pitch leaking out of a tree? I've washed with mild betadine and warm water and applied sauve for infection. What an I doing wrong or right to help my mares? they do wear fly masks and sheets. Thank you, XXXXX Fossil, Oregon

How many horses do you have?Any other animals? Many horses around you
I have 3 mares in 100 acre pasture. I have deer, elk, antelope and coyote that pass through occasionally, usually far from the horses. The horses are stalled about 12 hours through the night and in the pasture the other 12 hours. They all get grain and hay when stalled. They are all good eaters
With that big of an acreage, it is always a challenge. One thing you could try is the feed through fly products, and try the fly sheets that have a fly repellant in them already (make sure they cover the belly). Not sure that this was the kind of answer you wanted, hope it helpsLet me know if you have any further questions
