Ventipulmin (clenbuterol) is a bronchodilator that is very useful on horses that have airway constriction due to airway inflammation. It is commonly used on heavey horses and since many racehorses suffer from inflammatory airway disease it can benefit them by allowing them to breath more easily. It is however not legal to use in most racing jurisdictions and must be stopped a significant period of time prior to racing. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid with significant antiinflammatory properties and can benefit a racehorse by reducing airway inflammation, joint or tendon inflammation and also has been used as a calming agent. Many jurisdictions restrict its race day use. When using medications on a race horse you need to be cognizant of regulations in the area where you are racing.
