Customer Question

my ridgeline is not blowing out as cold air as it used to. I don't hear the clutch engaging (clicking), and it seemed to happen in one day. My service guy said the clutch is engaging but the click is just not as loud, but I don't buy that.
JA: Has the clutch been slipping? Are you having any trouble shifting?
Customer: I'm writing about the clutch on the air conditioning compressor.
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: 2006 Honda ridgeline
JA: Are you fixing your Ridgeline yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Can you tell me if there is a possibility low refrigerant can cause the clutch to stop working? I don't intend to work on it myself, but I am hoping for diagnostic help.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no

Hi Im David, yes low refrigerant charge will make the ac clutch to stop. your mechanic needs to hook up a manifold gauge set to the low and high pressure ports and see what the pressures are and then add refrigerant until the pressures are normal.

low refridgerant can cause the low pressure switch to prevent the a/c compressor clutch from engaging. but have you checked the compressor to ensure it is operating properly. i believe it is the same relay as the horn relay so you could try swapping them and hitting the horn if the horn works then so does the relay.
