It cranks, but won't start. Have spark on all the cylinders.

Customer Question

It cranks, but won't start. Have spark on all the cylinders.
JA: What is the voltage at the battery?
Customer: Did not measure it, since it cranks fine.
JA: What is the model/year of your Honda?
Customer: 2005 Civic
JA: Are you fixing your Civic yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Checked to see if the spark plugs were firing by pulling them out and grounding the threads to the battery. Then cranked the engine. Good spark on all plugs.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: That is all I have looking for other items to check,.

what engine do you have?

how and when did this problem first begin?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Yesterday. Went out to start it and it did not. Just cranked. Sounded a little funny like no attempt to turn over, but cranked at normal speed.
Checked for spark by pulling out the plugs one at a time and grounding that plug and then cranked. Good spark on all cylinders.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Will need to try that. Won't be able to try until tonight. So how can I get back to you?

if it does fire with the prime,,we will know it is a fuel problem,,if it doesnt and it does have a spark,i would think that it has jumped time, perhaps a broken timing belt

thanks

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Is there an easy way to check the timing belt? i did not see an easy way to remove the plastic cover.
Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 1 month ago.

well..you could do a compression test,,if the belt has broken,it wont have compression
