I got a 96 honda civic I drove through a puddle going to get

I got a 96 honda civic I drove through a puddle going to get something to eat I finished eating came back out to my car now it won't start
JA: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged?
Customer: Yes the lights turn on
JA: Are you fixing your Civic yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Well I'm down in Ocean city it's raining I'm not to sure what it could really be it's turning over but won't start
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: It did just start but wouldn't go above 2000 rpms I let off of it an now it won't start again

sounds you have water on an electrical connector or water on plugs.

is there any evidence of water in engine compartment ?

Take off distributor cap and inspect for water

if none of the above worked try a master reset in case ECU got wet .

Master reset Procedure

1- Disconnect Battery Cables ( Negative & Positive Cables )you can use any electrical wire if cables don't reach

2- Hold cables Together for 60 secs ,then let go

3- Wait 15 minutes

4- Make sure all doors are closed

5- Reconnect battery Cables

6- Lock & unlock the vehicles using the key from driver door side (if you have a key fob with no blade key, just lock & unlock using the key fob buttons)

7- Enter the vehicle and attempt to start

the d4 flashing means , problem wit transmission , you need to scan & retrieve fault codes
