Hi,

My name is ***** ***** I would be happy to help. I need you to start the engine and open the hood. Then turn the a/c switch on. I need you to see if both radiator cooling fans turn on when the a/c switch is pressed on. This will tell me a lot about which part of the system to look at. Thanks

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
get back to you in a min
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I will loose my internet outside - any possibility of a call instead? thanks
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
neither fan is coming on.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I meant the fans do not turn on.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I just downloaded the app - you can send msg - Waiting for your instructions to proceed. Standing by my van
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Hi Justin - still there??
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

Yes, I'm here.

Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

Does the inside blower fan turn on to blow air out?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
it did - hot air!!
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

Okay, great. Do you have a set of a/c gauges to check system pressures?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I dont have gauges but had the local firestone shop do a basic check yesterday - all pressures good.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
They wanted $99 to do advance check - I declined
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

and you are 100% certain that the cooling fans don't come on when the a/c switch is pressed with the engine running?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
i am looking at them right now. Not running
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
See pic
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

okay, that's a bit strange with the pressures being normal. Did they tell you what the pressures were?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No they didn't. Sorry I should have asked. I can give them a quick call and write back if you want
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

maybe in a minute

Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

Check fuses 11 and 12 in the under hood fuse box. Fuse 12 feeds power directly to the a/c clutch

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Checking righ now
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Fuses intact. Cooling fans just came on but ac compressor still not working
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I guess the radiator fans cycle off and on as needed or am i missing something?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
That is what they are doing now.
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

Yes, they cycle on when the coolant temperature reaches operating temperature.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Any thoughts?
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

Go to the a/c pressure switch and jump the two wire terminals with the engine running. Let me know if the a/c comes on

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Kinda hard to reach back there.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Trying with a paper clip
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Shorted - no luck
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

Very strange here. See if you can get those pressures for me. I doubt they wrote it down but maybe they did

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Just called them - they said they did not write them!
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

of course. I suspect low system pressures. That would explain the fans not turning on when the a/c switch is pressed on. I would double check those pressures

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Justin - though I appreciate the help, your answer puts me back to square one! It required both time and money to get the pressures checked the first time. I am willing to get it done one more time - but if that is not what is needed, I am afraid both you and I would have wasted a lot of effort.
Expert:  justinsbg replied 10 months ago.

Well, that's not my "answer", but before I can give you a quality answer I need to know this. Pressures are a good indicator into the problem. I need to be able to rule out a pressure related issue.
