I'm searching I'll need to replace the ignition lock

Customer Question

I'm searching for info I'll need to replace the ignition lock cylinder on my son's 98 Accord.
JA: How many miles on the car? How is the battery running?
Customer: I'm not with the car. Lots of miles, probably over 175K. the battery's okay as far as I know.
JA: What year is your Accord?
Customer: I just said. 98
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes. I said I'm planning to replace the lock cylinder.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: will I have to program the new keys?
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Honda Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

if i install the new lock cylinder, will i have to have the car towed to the dealer??
Expert:  MASTER TECH replied 3 months ago.

yes or you will need the brake code.

Expert:  MASTER TECH replied 3 months ago.

the brake code allows the customer to start the car with a non programmed key to drive it to the dealer.

how do i get the brake code?
Expert:  MASTER TECH replied 3 months ago.

I can give the brake code but will need to set up a premium offer,

what this does is allow us to make contact and I can verify your proof of ownership and ID

the cars reg and ID must match

this is all done VIA smart phone

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
My son has that info. He's 150 miles from here. Alternatively, can a locksmith reprogram the new keys?
Expert:  MASTER TECH replied 3 months ago.

i know some lock smiths are able to but you will need to contact them to see if they have the programmer.
