Have a Honda Question? Ask a Honda Repair Expert.
You may well have an oil pressure problem.
The warning light should be on, key on engine off.
Now disconnect the oil pressure switch, light should be off.
If it is not off, you have a grounded sensor wire.
The next thing to do is check the engine oil pressure with a mechanic's gauge.
If it is ok, then replace the oil pressure switch.
Is your warning light for oil pressure or oil level?
Red light or yellow light?
The oil level sensor is in the sump, the oil pressure switch is near the oil filter housing.
I would not be driving until we ascertain it is a low level warning (which we know is a lie), or low pressure which would be detrimental.
The yellow warning is oil level.
I have seen many reasons for oil level warning lights on.
Could be a wiring fault, or the sensor.
You can drive it, but the sooner you get it repaired, the better.
I would take it to Honda for their diagnosis, they would have seen it before and know how much to repair.
Hope this helps.
