Customer Question

2002 CRV. When cold it will sometimes not start. Tries to turn over. Mechanic ran many tests and can not find anything. Starts for him. I have been to pick it up twice late at night and it will not start for me. If we wait till AM it usually starts. I am using a different key than the mechanic. Is my car haunted or am I just a lousy Honda starter?

Welcome to JustAnswer.

Is the starter working OK, turning the engine over but just not starting(firing up)? Or is the starter not working like it should?

Thanks, Honda-Man

The problem is intermittent. Usually when the engine is cold.

Does the starter work like spin the engine but it won't fire up?

Does the green key indicator light come on and flash when this happens?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't know. Does my model and year have that?
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 1 year ago.

Yes your CR-V has a immobilizer system that prevents it from starting if the wrong key is used. It sounds like this may well be your problem. It can be very intermittent. I would ask your Mechanic to check the immobilizer system. If it does not come on at all or stays on or flashes while it won't start there is a problem with the immobilizer system.
