Hi I have just acquired a 1995 Prelude 2.3i, it ha been off the road for the last 7 years (have official paperwork to confirm this), has only 54000 mls on clock, runs like a dream. Has a few minor issues, like the ABS light staying on, just read the answer to that one but my problem is that the 4ws is off when I start off but does come on while driving. Sometimes it goes off again but more often it stays on. Do you think that this is an electrical fault or a fault with the steering. I am new to the preludes but just love the car. Any info appreciated
Country: United KingdomMake: HondaModel: Prelude 2.3i 4wsYear: 1995Engine: 2.3 Already Tried: Only had car 2 days so not had time to try anything, just came across this site n thought I would ask for an answer
The 4ws light is on is that the issue ?
As I said when I first drive off the light is not on but it does come on while driving. I cannot say that there is any common time factor or manoeuvre, like turning in a particular direction, when it does light up, but as I said it does go off again, sometimes, but remains on more often than off. Just wondering if this could be an electrical problem or an actual problem with the steering itself
No the problem is the 4wd ECU thats failing .A lot of times it just needs to be reset .You can do this by pulling the stereo fuse to reset the 4WS ECU.This should work for you its just an intermittent issue. If it continues you will need to replace the 4wd ECU.Worst case scenario you will have no 4wd.These are the next steps.Nothing to really worry about.Hoped this helped.Positive feedback and bonuses greatly appreciated.
Sorry to be a nuisance but just a little bit of clarification. The fuse you mention is this sited in the fusebox (wherever that is, as I said I have just got the car, no manual or anything) or is it an inline fuse somewhere, and you say 'These are the next steps'...is that what you mean about having to change the ECU or are you just referring to what you have just told me to do. Sorry for seeming a little stupid just want to be sure of what you are saying. I know this is just a single question charge but are there any other common faults that occur with this particular car that I should look out for in your experience, not looking for the answers just to be aware of anything else with this model that is a common occurrence. thanks again
Ok what you can do to clear the code for the 4wd issue is disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and this will clear any codes. If this issue still continues then you will most likely need to replace the 4wd ECU .Also the fuse is located in the underhood fuse box labeled audio unit . As for what to watch out for is make sure the timing belt water pump is done. It's due every 7 years or 100,00 miles . At this time you need to replace the timing belt water pump , counter belt and drive belts . Other then that no major issues and these are really reliable vehicles as well as there maintained . Hoped this helped . Bonuses greatly appreciated . Please click the excellent service rating so I get credit for my help thanks !
