Hi Customer, welcome to Just Answer. I'm acuramstr. This is caused by worn syncro teeth on 5th gear. Try changing the fluid using Honda manual trans fluid It might help. However eventually you will need to replace the worn 5th gear, syncro and slider. Sometimes we see this when the wrong oil (gear oil) is used or the transmission has been run low on oil . As 5th gear is the highest up in the case and the first to feel the effect of low or improper lubrication.
so why wouldnt there be a service light on or something? the check engine light came on, but the next day it went out. so i was assuming it was just a flute..
ok, I assumed this was a manual transmission. Is this an auto trans?
yes its an automatic...
Ok,Sorry about that. Then you should start by checking the fluid level of the trans and having the codes in the computer checked . Even if the light goes out the code will be stored in the computer. Tell me what the level and condition of the fluid is and the code and I can tell you more about what is going on.

Ok different expert here. How many miles on this vehicle?Does it slip or bang when going into any other gears?
105,000. no. it has just recently started, only when driving for long distances, and triing to accelerate at higher speeds(driving 75, then triing to pass)
Ok when was the last transmission service done? The engine light is still on correct?
the check engine light is out the next day, and everything is back to normal.. not sure when the the last trans service was done just bought the car..
Ok this can be a few different issues. If the transmission is not slipping or banging into all gears then I would have the transmission serviced at the dealer to make sure all the debris and dirt is out of the unit.If this happens again then they will need to look into a problem with the throttle position sensor and accelerator pedal position sensor for this issue .These have been known to short out and cause that issue. They can easily diagnose this by driving the vehicle with the scanner hooked up in the data list screen to see whats actually failing. These are the next steps for this issue. Also have them check the wiring to the throttle position sensor seen these pins walk out.Hoped this helped.Positive feedback and bonuses greatly appreciated.
