my 2000 honda accord will not shift from park into any gear, I push the button on the right side of the shift handle (automatic) and it won't move so I can shift out of park. what would cause that?
Hi, my name is XXXX XXX I'm a Honda expert here at JustAnswer.com. I'd be glad to help you with your question.
Check the brake lights when you press the brake pedal. Are the brake lights coming on?
OK, just a sec
ok
yes they do come on
When you apply the brake do you hear the parking release solenoid click
?
not sure that I have ever heard anyuthing except the hissing sound of the brake going down
Okay. Are you absolutely sure about the rear brake lights coming on?
fyi, my son is off at college and he called me and he is stranded in his car so I am talking to him on the phone translating what you are telling me to do
he is alone and having problems checking that
The reason I ask is because the brake light pedal switch is a common failure on that car
I asked him to use a bat/stick to check
and he said that they are not coming on
ok so what does it take to fix that
When it fails the brake lights don't work and it won't release the shifter
He needs a new switch on the pedal
Easy to fix just twist it to release it from the pedal and unplug it. Don't even need tools
can you give me a diagram? is that something I could do in a parking lot
great, can you give me a diagram?
let me see
OK
