my car wont start unless I move gear shift back and forth then foot

my car wont start unless I move gear shift back and forth then foot on the brake and key in the crank over position and the she will begin to crank over and start ,and the gear shift isa in the nutural. This is my wifes car and she cant do all that... Can you please tell me what is the fix for this,I need to move on to my other promblems,but not untill this one is fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello jacustomer, this is a problem with the nuetral safety switch. This keeps you from starting the vehicle unless it is in park or neutral. Either the switch is bad or the shifter cable is loose. Do you plan on fixing this yourself?
