Removal and Installation

Replacement

  1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle.

  2. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir.

  3. Remove the intake manifold cover.

BigBob :

  1. Cover the crankshaft pulley with several shop towels to protect if from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (A) and pump outlet hose (B) from the pump (C), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wine off any spilled fluid at once.

  2. Remove the belt (D) by loosening the pump adjusting nut (E), then remove pump mounting bolts (F), nut (G) and pump. Do not turn the steering wheel with pump removed.

  3. Connect the pump outlet hose and inlet hose. Tighten the pump fittings securely.

  4. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts and nut.

BigBob :

  1. Install the pump belt (A) on the pulley (B). Note these items during belt installation:

    • Make sure that the power steering belt is properly positioned on the pulleys.

    • Do not get the power steering fluid or grease on the belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation.

  1. Adjust the pump belt adjustment

  2. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line

BigBob :

Will you just be replacing the pump or are you overhauling it.

Customer :

just the pump. where is the manifold cover and pump adjusting nut to relieve tension on the power steering belt

Customer :

do you need special tools to remove and replace the pulley?

BigBob :

The cover is the trim on top of the engine. Click here for the belt removal.

BigBob :

You don't need the special tools if you can hold the pump to remove the nut.

BigBob :

I'm sorry I mean hold the pump pulley to remove the nut.

Customer :

special Honda power steering fluid? is napa's any good?

BigBob :

As long as it meets the Honda spec Napa's fluid is fine, that actually what we use at my shop.

BigBob :

Let me know if i can help further

BigBob :
