to remove the door panel clips, any suggestions so I don't break them?

I have a tool that I slip under the panel next to the clip and lift to pop the clip out of the metal door. They are pretty tough so if you use a stiff putty knife or other such tool right next to them and work your way around the panel they should come out just fine.

I have the panel off and the part I am trying to replace is the "latching mechanism" not the tailgate door handle that you provided info on. This "latching mechanism" is connected to the "latch stop" that's in your picture but I can't see how you disconnect it from the stop. There is a small steel pin on the old "latching mechanism" that is pushed thru a neoprene plug/clip. Somehow it needs to be pulled out that plug/clip and the new forced back thru. But HOW? Suggestions?

Sorry I should have posted this also, see if this helps
