2005 Honda Accord LX: Check engine light..Code reads oxygen sensor 1

Customer Question

I have a 2005 Honda Accord LX. Check engine light on. Code reads oxygen sensor 1, bank 1. Is this something I can replace or do I need to take it to the dealer?

Is the code p0135 you can do this yourself I will post how.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I went back to the mechanic who ran the diagnostic to ask him what the code was. Unfortunately, since he had turned the check engine light off, it won't give him a code. He said I would have to bring it back in when the light comes back on.

Expert:  HondaPlatinum replied 3 years ago.
Ok it's primary o2 sensor failure easily replaced yourself. He should not have cleared the code or at least wrote it down. Regardless you can replace it yourself very easy just unplug connector at the o2 sensor in the cat under the car remove sensor install the new one plug in connector and you are done saved your self 100 dollars labor . Also only use a Honda sensor after markets do not work well with Honda. Hoped this helped. Positive feedback and bonsues greatly appreciated.

I need a little more clarification. Please tell me the following: When you say "just unplug connector at the o2 sensor in the cat under the car..." what is the "cat" and where specifically "under the car" will I find the "cat"?

My "check engine" light has come back on, so I took it back to have the code checked. The code is po 171. Does that change your answer?

Expert:  HondaPlatinum replied 3 years ago.
Yes most common is a faulty fuel pressure regulator but these are the most common issues .
Ok p0171 is a lean mixture sensed by the ECM of the car which cam be a few different issues usually a faulty o2 sensor which will still be covered under warranty on your car usually 7 years 90,000 miles other posibities are faulty cats or fuel pressure regulators out overtight valves they need to have it hooked up to the Honda HDS scanner to see which is malfunctioning usually the primary o2 sensor is the cause
Hoped this helped. Postings feedback and bonuses greatlymappreciated .
