Hi,

It is located behind the glove box and isnt very difficult to do yourself. You can pick up a cabin air filter for around $25 at most parts stores.

Below are directions with photos to help:

Hi,

Are you referring to the fuel strainer mounted on fuel pump?

Customer replied1316 days and 8 hours ago.

I believe so...
My check enginge light keeps coming on.
Suggestions were to replace the fuel cap?
Possible Catalytic Converter?
or the carbon filter

Hi,

Ok, those are fairly diverse possibilities.

Do you have the fault code that was retreived when the computer was hooked up, or the fault code definition?

Customer replied1316 days and 8 hours ago.

I don't believe the dealer gave me the exact code. They just stated that it was a fuel systems issue that was triggering the check engine light.

Hi,

Ok, we need to have the exact code. You can go by a major parts store such as Autozone and they will read the codes and give you a printout of any fault codes.

Without these codes, you are going to wind up throwing alot of money and time replacing parts that are actually good.

A gas cap or carbon filter, which I think they are actually referring to the evaporative canister which has carbon in it, will be one of several fault codes such as P0442 or P0455, and could be one of over a dozen components.

The catalytic converter will only set a fault code of P0420.

I can give you directions on replacing the evap canister, but I do strongly suggest not replacing any parts until you can get me the exact fault code and I can help you in diagnosing it so that you are not wasting alot of money and time replacing otherwise good parts

I'm sorry -- can't find the latest report that I had, but is 401 a code? My dealer invoice just states that tech found evap code and not sure if 401 is an actual code or the tech's number

The van has been operating OK.
Simply frustrated at having to pay $60 each time the check engine light comes on and the dealer can't provide a definitve answer

Hi,

P0401 is a code, but its for the EGR valve.

There are actually several hundred fault codes. From description I believe it will be one of the P0400 series codes. Below is a listing of them, along with a brief definition. see if you recognize one of them as what they told you:

YIKES! I can't locate my very last invoice from them, but in the conversation with the service manager, it was simply a lot of ...
"well, we're not certain, but....
we could replace the gas cap for $25 and/or the carbon filter for $500 and/or the catalytic converter for $1,200....."
Frustrated, but don't want to neglect my van either.
Thanks for all of your help and suggestions!

Hi,

Dont give up yet. Unless you live in California, most autoparts stores will read your computer for fault codes for FREE. Try that and then just re-open this and post the fault code number here and we can go from there.

I think that they are going in wrong direction if they are saying it could be a gas cap or catalytic converter. The converter sets its own codes as you can see from above. It wont set the same code as a fault gas cap or carbon filter will.

see if you can get a parts store to read the codes for you and post them back to here.

Dont reply to this post and it will leave the question open for at least 24 hrs so that you can return to it and post the fault codes
