how to check tranny fluid in honda accord LX 1992

Resolved Question:

my car stopped changing gears today, it tried to drive in lower gear, then completely stop and would not move though engine ran and sounded fine. i shut the car down, restarted it, car would not move in any gear apart for reverse. so i shut it down again and let it cool off for a few minutes, then restarted again. car moved, shifted for a few minutes, then stoppped again. i was said it might be low on tranny fluid (it''s leaking something) but i don''t know how to check it and what tranny fluid to add and where in Honda Accord LX 1992.It is automatic, 232,000 miles, 2 months ago it got a new distributor that''s when first troubles with shifting appeared. Thanks!

To check the fluid level on this, you start the engine, and cycle the shifter through all the gears. Then put it in PARK and allow the engine to idle until it is fully warmed up.

Then shut the engine off, pull the dipstick, wipe it off and reinstall. Then pull it back out and measuer the fluid line with the lines on the dipstick.

If it is low, you can add normal Dexron III transmission fluid in the same hole you pulled the dipstick from, although Honda recommends "HONDA" fluid for better shift quality.. however a fluid top off shouldn't make much of a difference where this is concerned.

Good luck!
