How much oil does the 2002 VTX 1800 take and what type. I was ridding for a couple of weeks now since I purchased off the dealer and just today I checked and the dip stick was not getting a reading. Have I done any damage to the motor?

thank you for your question hope this helps.

the manual says 3.9 quarts of 10w40

There are two drain holes. The one coming straight out of the bottom will get almost all of it.The one to the front of the engine will drain just a tiny bit of oil that gets dammed up in the crank case. Be sure and get the honda filter. There is nothing better. It is worth the extra money.

2 new crush washers available from HDL
Torque wrench capable of 20ft/lbs to 22 ft/lbs
17mm socket
Strap wrench or oil filter socket
Drain pan (whatever your choice is for draining oil into)
New filter - I run the OEM ones
3.9 qts of your favorite oil

as for the oil being low on the stick i would not worry to much about it there is still 1.5 quarts if it is not on the stick.
but i would look carefully at the oil you drain out for mettle.
