I need to complete a sample project involving creating a Web

This answer was rated:

I need to complete a sample project involving creating a Web Form with Asp.net in MS visual studio. I need to be able to load colors from an XML file and display a specific color in the form. I was wondering if someone could help me out with this project. I only need it to do what is required without any bells and whistles. If at all possible could someone explain how you carried out this process?

The wikisend link for the details is: http://wikisend.com/download/184998/1.docx

ehabtutor :

hi

Customer:

hello, how are you

ehabtutor :

My name isXXXXX and i will do my best to help you on your product.

ehabtutor :

on your question *

Customer:

thanks

ehabtutor :

I will start working on it. What version of VS are you using

Customer:

ms visual studio 2010 professional

ehabtutor :

Do you have a deadline for this, how soon do you need it?

Customer:

sooner than later, its for a possible interview. I plan on sending the recruiter some other sample codes that I have done in the past, but I have always had a problem with asp

Customer:

the wikisend link worked for you right?

ehabtutor :

yes

Customer:

great, like I said it just needs to be very elementary/basic

ehabtutor :

Is there an associated databse?

Customer:

the less I need to explain would be great. I just want to be able to do the basics since it has been a while

ehabtutor :

as there is a part where when a user goes to the page he will find his favourite color selected

ehabtutor :

so its either going to be stored in a database or either use cookies

Customer:

not that I know of, my understanding is that I just need to load an XML file that contains the colors

Customer:

database

Customer:

i know absolutely nothing about cookies

ehabtutor :

ok i will handle it, don't worry

Customer:

thanks man, I feel bad doing this. Hopefully I will be able to jog my memory on the concept

ehabtutor :

I will start working on it and explain it to you once i finish

Customer:

thanks, XXXXX XXXXX an eye out for an email from justanswer

ehabtutor :

yup

ehabtutor :

Please download the solution from here

ehabtutor :

http://wikisend.com/download/321438/Colors.zip

ehabtutor :

Let me know if you need any help

ehabtutor :

Don't forget to leave me a positive rating. A bonus is highly appreciated.

Customer:

sure will, ill take a look at it now. Thanks!

Customer:

Is there a way to actually run the application to see what it would look like?

ehabtutor :

open visual studio then choose file -> open website

ehabtutor :

tjem se;lect the folder named color that i have sent to you and then after the project loads click run

ehabtutor :

where you able to get it run?

Customer:

i got it open, looking for the run button.

Customer:

tried right clicking in solution explorer and clicking build website but nothing happened

ehabtutor :

its the play icon at the top in green

ehabtutor :

it should open your browser once you click it

Customer:

oh ok, i thought that was the debug button

ehabtutor :

its a debug if you add breakpoints to debug the code. but without adding breakpoints it only runs the project

Customer:

do you have time to explain how you did this by chance?

ehabtutor :

yes

Customer:

There are some files that generated on their own, correct?

ehabtutor :

i have created an xml file "colors.xml"

ehabtutor :

you can find it in App_

ehabtutor :

App_data

Customer:

gotcha

ehabtutor :

this file contains XML tags for color options

ehabtutor :

<colors>
<color>Red</color>
<color>Orange</color>
<color>Yellow</color>
<color>Green</color>
<color>Blue</color>
<color>Indigo</color>
<color>Violet</color>
</colors>

ehabtutor :

this is a very simple XML

Customer:

yup

ehabtutor :

then i have create an asp.net web form using c#

ehabtutor :

Default.aspx

Customer:

side question: does it matter which is used? Visual Web developer or Visual C#?

Customer:

application wise I mean

ehabtutor :

no

ehabtutor :

in the document you sent no specific programing language was requested

ehabtutor :

it could be c# XXXXX VB

ehabtutor :

i used c#

Customer:

I get all of the applications confused, I ask because it opened in the web developer instead of C#

Customer:

what about the style sheet and web.config

ehabtutor :

web developer is a tool used to run the application

Customer:

you did those manually or were they auto generated

ehabtutor :

i have created the style sheet

ehabtutor :

wbe.config is auto generated

Customer:

what are cookies?

ehabtutor :

cookies are client side files that we use to store keys on the user pc.

ehabtutor :

for example in this project i am using it to store the favourite color

ehabtutor :

so when the user goes to the website for the first time, he chooses his favorite color, if he opens the website again, we get the favorite color from the cookie

ehabtutor :

so as if the website remembers what was the favorite color for the user

ehabtutor :

it is also used for example for the famous remember me in most of the website to remember your login, so you don't need to add your username and password XXXXX time.

Customer:

sorry, these are probably all dumb questions, do you know of a good resource (website) for asp.net? I dont want to take up anymore of your time. when I have time later I want to go through each line of the default.aspx.cs code and try to get a better understanding

Customer:

I cant even believe I have an interview for this Developer job

Customer:

Other than school, I have no experience, obviously

ehabtutor :

I wish you best of luck in your interview

ehabtutor :

let me look for a good resource for you.

Customer:

am I allowed to go ahead and rate you now and still remain in the chat?

ehabtutor :

ehabtutor :
