1) Identify cultural (anti-bias) and instructional strategies

Resolved Question:

1) Identify cultural (anti-bias) and instructional strategies for meeting the needs of the children described on the form Cultural and Instructional Strategies located within the Additional Resources folder in Canyon Connect.

2) Bullet your responses in the appropriate places.

3) In 30 – 40 words list two applicable strategies per student (one in each category) based on course readings.

4) Discuss your strategies with your mentor teachers.

Maria
Seven-year-old Maria is an outgoing, happy second-grader with strong literacy skills; in fact, she is bilingual, Spanish/English. Her favorite part of school is reading and writing stories. She also enjoys math. She is very active and enjoys recess and creating dance steps in PE. She is sensitive and can get her feelings hurt easily.

Cultural (anti-bias) and Instructional Strategies:

1. Reinforcing Effort and Providing Recognition

Results of Mentor Teacher Discussions:
Effort and recognition speak to the attitudes and beliefs of students, and teachers must show the connection between effort and achievement. Research shows that although not all students realize the importance of effort, they can learn to change their beliefs to emphasize effort. Often this method helps children who are often sensitive.

Ashley
Six-year-old Ashley is the youngest of 5 children. She is very shy and clings to her older sister each day when she brings her into the first grade classroom. Ashley is curious; her favorite part of school is doing science experiments. She reads at a primer level but enjoys having people read to her.

Cultural (anti-bias) and Instructional Strategies:

Results of Mentor Teacher Discussions:

Xavier
Xavier is a Kindergartener who really enjoys sports, particularly baseball. He has low literacy skills. He is very social and enjoys interactions with other children during recess, class activities, and at the computer. He is a hands-on learner, confident, and a risk-taker.

Cultural (anti-bias) and Instructional Strategies:

1. Cooperative learning

Results of Mentor Teacher Discussions:
Cooperative learning helps children build a sense of competence as they
perceive that they are a valued, contributing group member.

Paul
Paul is a third grader who is a very strong reader. He chooses to spend most of his time reading and enjoys many different topics. He writes long and complex stories during writer workshop as well. Paul seldom engages socially with other children; in fact, he is quite timid with both children and adults.

Cultural (anti-bias) and Instructional Strategies:

1. Cooperative learning

Results of Mentor Teacher Discussions:

Jamaica
This four-year-old preschooler has excellent fine and gross motor skills. She enjoys games with other children, jump rope, and PE class. She is a creative artist and particularly excels at painting. Her literacy skills are average. Socially, she is outgoing and easily accepted by her peers.

Do you have links to the course readings? I would really need to see those. Also, when is this assignment due?

Thanks!

tomorrow at 12am and yes i do i can send them?
Expert:  Gwyn replied 2 years ago.
Please send them my way. Mediafire or box.com are the easiest ways to send--in my opinion.
Also, just to make sure--it's not tonight at midnight, but tomorrow at midnight?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
yes tomorrow at midnight how do i send them to you in mediafire?
Expert:  Gwyn replied 2 years ago.
You will need an account with them (it's free). Actually, use box.com. It's easier. It's just like attaching something to an email. Then, after you have uploaded the info, it will show you a link that says "Share." Click on that and then copy and paste the link here.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

i cant just paste the links here

and theres a chapter in my book

Expert:  Gwyn replied 2 years ago.
Yes, you can try that, too. Your book won't copy here. You can copy and paste the part I need into a word document (don't worry about the pictures--they won't copy--and then upload it here.) Whatever works for you is find with me.

I'm signing off now, but I will check back in the morning and start on this.

  • heres the chapter: http://www.box.com/s/ux3mre3lm71rm3lbmk9b thank you

  • Expert:  Gwyn replied 2 years ago.
Hi there. All of these are password XXXXX and you should not give me your password. Could you copy and paste the chapter and readings into a word document and then upload them? That's the only other thing I can think for you to do.

I'll check back in the morning.

    Customer: replied 2 years ago.

here is the part of the book http://www.box.com/s/276aqc0rv2q1l7qvlj8f

do you have an email? That i can send the article directly

Expert:  Gwyn replied 2 years ago.
Hi there. Experts cannot give out our personal emails.

On your computer is a key that says "PrtSc" When you click that while on a page, you can copy that page exactly. You will need to first open a word document, so you can paste the screen shots somewhere. So, hit PrtSc, then go to the word document and click CTRL + C. It will paste there for you. Then you can save it and send it through box.com.

The part of the chapter you sent was only a tiny portion. Also, it mentions chapter 8. Could you send me more of the first chapter and some of chapter 8? I should have all I need from the textbook, so I wouldn't worry about the articles.

Sorry for the trouble. I appreciate your working with me.
    Customer: replied 2 years ago.
    it doesnt work
Expert:  Gwyn replied 2 years ago.
Oh no. Hmmm. Try Ctrl + V. That should work.
    Customer: replied 2 years ago.

how do i get the whole paragraph

Expert:  Gwyn replied 2 years ago.
You may need to do more than one screen shot. I know it's time consuming, but it's the only way. You may also want to switch to full screen, which is F11.
