on values are dependent upon the frequency of light.v=c/n, for blue light n is larger and hence the speed of the blue light is smaller. It is this difference in n value for the varying wavelengths that causes the dispersion of light by a triangular prizm. Violet light, being slowed down to a greater extent by the absorption and reemission process, hence it refracts more than red light.
