9x = 7y

8x + 28.64 = 8y

So we have,

9x = 7y
8x + 28.64 = 8y

Let Bob earn x per hour and Jack earn y per hour.

x : y is 7 : 9

Therefore,

x/y = 7/9
9x = 7y

Also,

The amount earned by Bob = number of hours worked × rate per hour = 8x
The amount earned by Jack = number of hours worked × rate per hour = 8y

We know that:

Amount earned by Bob + 28.64 = Amount earned by Jack
8x + 28.64 = 8y

So we have,

9x = 7y ----------------- (1)
8x + 28.64 = 8y ------ (2)

Solving these simultaneously,

From (1)
x = 7y/9

Substitute this in (2),

8(7y/9) + 28.64 = 8y
28.64 = 8y - 56y/9
28.64 = 16y/9
16y = 257.76
y = 16.11

Substitute this in (1),

9x = 7(16.11)
9x = 112.77
x = 12.53

Therefore,

x = 12.53
y = 16.11

Therefore, Bob earns \$12.53 per hour.
