The length of a rectangle is 1ft more than twice its width,

This answer was rated:

The length of a rectangle is 1ft more than twice its width, and the area of the rectangle is 28ft^2 . Find the dimensions of the rectangle.
Let length be x and width be y.

We have x= 2y+1 ----- (1)

Also xy = 28 ----(2)

Putting value of x from(1) in (2), we get

(2y+1)y = 28

2y^2 +y-28 = 0

2y^2+8y-7y -28 = 0

Or, 2y(y+4)-7(y+4) = 0

Or, (2y-7) (y+4) = 0

Or, y = 7/2, -4

Neglecting -4, we get width = 7/2 = 3.5 ft.

Length = 2*3.5+1 = 8 ft. Ans.

Kindly ACCEPT the answer.
