Ray Atkins, Can you help me on this assignment Nathan

Customer Question

Ray Atkins,

Can you help me on this assignment?

Nathan has an important and difficult final exam in one week's time. If he is able to earn an A on the exam, he will graduate at the top of his class. In the midst of studying for his exam, he is also completing job applications and trying to find a place to live after graduation.

Despite exemplary study habits, Nathan is finding it difficult to focus and complete his readings. He finds that even after he reads a chapter in the text and goes over his own notes, minutes later, Nathan can’t even remember what he studied, let alone the details of the material. In sharp contrast, Nathan finds himself remembering the most insignificant things like the lyrics of songs that he has only heard once, strange parts of conversations that he wasn’t even paying attention to, and irrelevant facts from television shows that his roommate has been watching. This leads Nathan to an interesting question: How much control do you have in moving information through the various memory systems?

Keeping the above scenario in mind, answer the following questions:

Why is a certain type of information more difficult to process and remember compared to another type of information? Be specific in your description.

What three factors increase the rate at which information moves through the various memory systems?

What three factors slow down the rate at which information moves through the various memory systems?

How would you suggest developing computer-based educational/training programs that more readily aid in moving information through the memory systems?
