The properties of sodium atom and sodium ion are as follows :-

Atom - Equal number of protons and electrons.
Ions - Full outer shell of electrons.

1. An atom has no overall electric charge but ion has an electric charge. If we compare sodium atom and ion, sodium atom is neutral while sodium ion has a positve charge ( Lose electrons ).

2. They have the same size. The only difference is sodium do have 11 electron and 11 proton ( as we discussed in pt 1 ) while it give up one electron to form na+.

3. Sodium atom is Less stable than Sodium Ion.

4. Sodium atom is found as soft and shiny metal in pure form while Sodium ion is never availble in pure form.

5. Sodium is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity while Ions are poor conductor of heat and electricity.
