Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The Fair Labor Standards Act was approved in 1938. It is a piece of legislation that is formally documented in the United States Code of Law under sections 201 to 219 and title 29. The Act explains the procedures for administering overtime. There is also legislation concerning how wages are to be paid and also how many hours of work should constitute how much compensation.

 

Exempt employees can not claim entitlement under the FLSA for work and overtime completed for an employer.

 

For many years government employees were exempt from the FLSA.

 

Non exempt employees can claim entitlement under the FLSA of minimum wage and overtime for work completed for an employer.

 

There are also geographical areas that hold exempt and nonexempt status for FLSA entitlement.
