My husband's cardiologist prescribed a generic for Lipitor for his high cholesteol which is 143. I do not want him taking any statins because of a serious reaction he had to zocor years ago. It there an alternative? Maybe a holistic remedy?p.s. My husband is treating mildly for Atrial Fibulation which he takes a bayer aspirin for every day.
Hello there.I have several options that I provide my patients with when trying to lower cholesterol. He are several ideas:1) Diet and lifestyle changes are critical. All simple carbohydrates must be eliminated from the diet. This includes all grains (wheat, rice, corn, etc). No pasta, no bread, no candy, no cookies, no crackers, no soda, no dried fruit, no juice. Alcohol should also be eliminated. Diet should include fruits, vegetables (no corn no potatoes)' and lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish, grass fed beef) only. Exercise - 40 minutes of walking daily. 2) Fish oil - essential fatty acids in fish oil have been shown to reduce cholesterol and improve good cholesterol. It is important to get a good brand of fish oil. Two good brands of fish oil that you can get over the counter are Carlson and Nordic Naturals. 3) Red Yeast Rice - most people start with 600mg and work there way up to 1800mg if needed. This is a very common natural alternative for statin drugs. I hope you find this helpful. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Please check ACCEPT so that I may receive credit for my work.
