Customer Question

I have an Onkyo TX-8511 and the phono stopped putting out audio
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: Onkyo TX-8511, i replaced my old one with a new one (same make and model)
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I tried a different turntable, same problem.
JA: Anything else you want the electronics expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: If I plug it into the Phono into the CD jack it works

Hello, I'm unclear as to what you're saying. Are you saying you have two Onkyo receivers, and the Phono Input doesn't work on either of them?

Also, are you using an outboard Phono preamp between the turntable and the receiver?

Please elaborate with as much detail as possible.

I have 2 receivers, replaced the old one because I thought that was the problem. This turntable worked for many years with my old receiver but then stopped working.

So, to clarify- neither Onkyo receiver will produce any sound from the Phono Inputs- correct?

Also, you're saying you've tried more than one turntable?

Customer: replied 17 days ago.
tried another turntable, same problem.

Once more: Neither Onkyo receiver will produce any sound from the Phono Inputs- correct?

Customer: replied 17 days ago.
That is correct, but it did work for many years prior to this.
Expert:  Aric replied 17 days ago.

That would not make sense if two receivers have the same issue and with multiple turntables. This problem cannot be solved given this information. I will opt out and open the question up to another expert.

Hi and welcome to the site, I’m Louie. Sorry you had to wait awhile but I’ll do my best to help.

Initially, bear with us; re-confirm and post back with the complete model number of the turntable.

I tried 2 turntables with same result, the make and model of the turntable is Technics SL-DD22
