Customer: intermittently for the last 2 days and now hasn't come back
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: everything in the manual
JA: The theater expert can solve this for you. Anything else you want him to know before I connect you two?
Customer: i don't have a remote for it so any changes need to be done from the front panel

Hello, I’m Nathan, and I’ll be assisting you today.

Sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with this but I’ll do my best to help you out.

When you say passing, do you mean to the pioneer speakers, or to the tv?
Can you get even the internal tuner (fm radio) to play?

What icons/indicators are lit on the pioneer display?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
no audio out of pioneer speakers, and nothing out of any source, not even fm tuner
display shows the source name with H next to it, SP>A up top and ADVS & HDMI on the bottom row

Can you please plug in the mcacc setup microphone to the front, go into the settings menu under auto calibration, and run through that process,

then tell me if you're able to hear the test tones through any of the speakers?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I don't have the microphone with me, that is in storage elsewhere, can i make it send test tones using buttons on the front panel? as I no longer have a remote for this unit.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
the unit has been fully functional with no remote for 18 months
Expert:  Nathan replied 9 months ago.

You can go into the settings menu under manual setup and you can try to get the test tones there by adjusting levels.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
is there a manual setup button on the unit?
Expert:  Nathan replied 9 months ago.

Sorry, I had sent that before your note about not having the remote came in.

No, there is not, you can't setup without it.

What we can try is a factory reset, but there is some danger in that too, because you won't be able to get through all the setup process without the remote.

There isn't much else that can be done in this case without a remote though. Do you want to try that?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
yeah let's go for the reset
Expert:  Nathan replied 9 months ago.

Okay power it off,

press and hold the BAND button on front, while powering back on,

until RESET ? shows on screen

press the AUTO SURROUND button

Press ALC/Standard once

OK shows on screen

power off and back on

if sound still does not work at that point, it would indicate an internal fault, which would require repair/replacement, but you may still be under warranty
