Home Theater Questions? Ask a Technician for Answers ASAP
Hello, Please elaborate on the problem.
1) Is this the first time setup of the Denon?
2) What's the model number of the TV it's connected to?
3) What cabling/connections are running from the Denon to the TV?
Let me know when you're able to see my reply.
Hi and welcome to JustAnswer,Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only...Initially, let's review the basics; first - would it work in AM or FM?
...and have you tried a RESET ?
This is significant; there is sound in tuner (radio) mode.
What devices are connected to the Denon using what kind of cables?
And how is it connected to what TV model please? ...likewise using what cable(s)?
If running on PURE mode, then it would mean that the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) / surround system is bypassed.
As inquired above, have you tried a RESET?
A reset is both an attempt of a fix and as a test by process of elimination.
A non-corrective reset is indicative of a likely internal hardware issue.
As posted above, then it would appear to be an internal hardware issue.
Please post back how you would want to approach this and/or should additional information be needed.
Is it still under some form of warranty?
That it would run in PURE is the key; the DSP is bypassed. This in itself tells us that the DSP that processes the surround modes is most likely faulty. It would either be a low or missing low B+ or even capacitor issues and in some rare instances, the µ-processor and/or its peripheral circuitry has gone bad.
Repairs would then be needed.
I realize that the above information may perhaps be not what was expected. Unfortunately, there is no quick-n-easy fix and neither is there a workaround; sorry for having to be the bearer of bad news.
Are you then considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair approach? If yes, do you have access to and familiar with a multi-meter and even a soldering iron?
Perhaps more importantly, would be you comfortable working on the inside circuitry? ...LIVE?
Great on the DIY!
Bear with me as I retrieve the Service Manual from my other computer.
In the mean time, please remove the top cover and visually inspect the wiring and connectors.
It would help to document all actions with and by taking pictures; lots of pictures.
