I have a Pioneer vsx-1021-5, I turned the unit on after a long time and tried to play a blue ray dvd. The sound is fine but the picture fades in and out.

Hi Amar and welcome to JustAnswer,

Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only...

Initially, was a firmware update attempted ?

no, my receiver is not connected to the internet

no I do not want a live phone call, but I need a response to my problem via chat or email

Error code UE33 indicates that a firmware update has failed.

Still, have you tried a RESET?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
no, I have not tried a reset
Expert:  Louie replied 7 months ago.

Can you please try a RESET?

A reset is both a test and a try of a fix. As it implies, a reset would force the unit to revert back to factory defaults removing glitches and config errors but would include memories, presets and user preferences. After a reset, the initial setup would have to be performed.

May have to be done a number of times.

This is very critical - a reset however would not be corrective of an internal hardware concern; but it would be confirmed. In some instances, it may even expose other issues.

I will try a reset tomorrow and I will get back, thank you

I understand Amar and would look forward to an update tomorrow or when able.
