Hi Kate and welcome to JustAnswer,

Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only...

Initially, is there still audio from the other sources including the tuner; AM and FM?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I watching TV through another hdmi port - just not the sat/cab port
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The web suggests this could.p be a common problem with pioneer?
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

A potential hardware issue particularly if the other HDMI ports are working as exzpected and only the IN 2 (SAT/CBL) has no sound.

Can we try a RESET first?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sure
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Give me instructions!
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

Consider a RESET. A reset is both a test and a try of a fix. As it implies, a reset would force the unit to revert back to factory defaults removing glitches and config errors but would include memories, presets and user preferences. After a reset, the initial setup would have to be performed. If have not been done and should you venture to try: please click HERE.

May have to be done a number of times.

This is very critical - a reset however would not be corrective of an internal hardware concern; but it would be confirmed. In some instances, it may even expose other issues.

Louie - sorry I don't understand the directions and cannot get the reset to come up - sorry
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I can't multi-zone or how to turn hdmi off. A strange menu does come up but it has no reset

Were you able to view the instructions?

Still, let's try this; power off and unplug the Pioneer. Wait 5 minutes and then plug back in only - this is the standby condition.

Then press and hold the ENTER button at the front panel. While still pressing on the ENTER button, press the STANDBY/ON button.

The screen should show RESET ◄ NO ►.

Use the ◄ PRESET ► buttons to select ◄ RESET ►.

Then press ENTER again.

The screen should show RESET? OK

And then press ENTER again.

It says Main:go.47 not reset
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

Can you please try the "...power off and unplug the Pioneer. Wait 5 minutes and then plug back in only..."

Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

Kate, let's do it longer. Instead of just 5 minutes, unplug for an extended period of time at least 30 minutes preferably longer. The idea is to simulate a soft reset before the full/hard reset.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok - set my timer for another 25 mins
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

And then with just plugging back in, please see if anything is displayed.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok - 30 mins - turn the power back on?
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

No, just plug the Pioneer back in. Do not press on any buttons yet.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok ready
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

Ensure that all HDMI, USB and iPod (if any) are still unplugged.

...Then press and hold the ENTER button at the front panel.

I still get main:go.47 and the wierd hex messages using preset
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Vsx-924 is model
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

Before pressing on the ◄ PRESET ► buttons but after pressing and hold the ENTER button at the front panel and then press the STANDBY/ON button, does the screen show RESET ◄ NO ► ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No it says "main:go.47"
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

Bear with me and please confirm; merely pressing on ENTER and STANDBY/ON results in "...main:go.47..." displayed on the Pioneer's small screen?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
that is correct
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

At this point Kate, I can only propose to update the firmware.

That it fails to complete its RESET procedure is very unusual; i.e. if it would still work as before.

Would you consider updating the firmware then?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Maybe tomorrow? Send me the instructions perhaps, but it is late here now
Expert:  Louie replied 1 year ago.

I understand; tomorrow or when able.

Still, please click HERE for the instructions.
