Hello , my name is Jack Perhaps I can help you with this problem but first i would have a few questions;
I would take it that your tv has only an optical audio out , and no headphones out for example ?
Is this tv connected to a cable box/converter,satellite receiver,digital converter etc ?
You are talking about a " Optical adapter to mini jack" , can you tell me what it is ?
Does it have a model number , is it powered etc and what type of connectors does it have ?
It only has optical out. No headphone out. It is connected to Directv hd receiver. The adapter is . 3.5mm mini optical female/digital optical toslink male link. It is not powered and does not work when speakers hooked up to it.
O.k then there could be a couple of ways to make this work .
Your direct tv receiver should have rca type audio outs at the back that could be used with a stereo rca to mini-phone adapter like in the picture below;
Or you could buy an optical to analog audio converter , here is an example ;
You can also get those locally at places lihe radio shack , walmart, bestbuy etc.
Note that you will still need the stereo rca to mini phone adapter and an optical/toslink cable.
Easiest though would be to take the sound out of the direct tv box.
Hope this help and please take the time to rate my answer if that does the trick , otherwise do not rate at all , just let me know and we`ll see what can be done and note that you can reach me here at anytime after rating if you have any questions.
