Hi My Onkyo Receiver HT-RC180 has lost all sound. The set

Customer Question

Hi
My Onkyo Receiver HT-RC180 has lost all sound. The set up recognizes speakers that are connected but the Speaker/Channel indicator shows no speakers at all. I have reset the AV Receiver to no avail.
This system has worked fine up until now, so I'm thinking it is a software issue perhaps...
Thanks Chris

Hello [Sir/Ms], My name is XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX you for posting your question on Just Answer! I will be happy to help you with this problem, did this happen while you were listening to it,, or was anything done or touched,, pull the power for 10min,, let me know all what happened.

Customer replied 273 days and 23 hours ago.

RickWe were away a few days. Nothing disturbed. Possible power surge perhaps? When switched on no sound. Only from TV speakers through HDMI input / output if receiver is off.Usually the sound option selected leads to the speakers in use being displayed. Now the display is blank suggesting that the software is not processing the chosen sound such as Direct, Stereo etc. identified by the Speaker/Channel Indicator. In set up the speakers are shown, 6ohm, bi-amp etc. Is there an in-line fuse to check?

ok and do you here a click? from the receiver and also does the speakers have a reset,, can you disconnect all speakers and connect them one at a time,, a blown speaker can cause this

Customer replied 273 days and 22 hours ago.

Rick
That will take awhile as inaccessible. They are new Q900 KEF and Harmon Karmon in wall surrounds. A shorted speaker not likely, but possible I guess.
There is a click on powering up. Not on changing inputs or sound type from cable box.

ok be patient let me check the manual

Customer replied 273 days and 22 hours ago.

Rick
The power supply was through a surge protector. So should have been OK.
The manual has a reset procedure if it won't power up (pg. 138)
Disconnect and un plug for 1 hr. Reconnect and turn volume to max. If powered up, vol to min, power off and reconnect. However, this receiver stays powered up when switched on.

Customer replied 273 days and 22 hours ago.

Rick
All devices were un plugged from the power strip. It's late.

Ricke
I know you want feedback but last thing you said was I'll check the manual.
Then you said contact service.
Did you diagnose the sound fault? If so what is the problem?

Do you need me to do any more tests?
Thanks
Chris

PS I have been away several days

this is a common issue according to the manufacturer,, this is why i suggested contacting the number above,, the manufacturer gave no information on what exactly the problem is,, but im sure its the Audio IC's,, and it seems with so many people having the same issue they are probably repairing and just charging for parts and not labor,, again this is a guess,, i would for so many un happy people,, let me know if you have any more questions friend,, im sure the company will take care of you
