I have connected my HDMI catv into the HDMI IN on the back

Customer Question

I have connected my HDMI catv into the HDMI IN on the back of my AVR 1312 Denon unit. and I do get video but no sound through AVR 1312 unit. Possibly a setting to find on the new Vizio 42" WIFI LCD.
I have connected a 3- lead (red, white and yellow) RCA from dvd/cd component, An older Samsung DVD C-621 into the designated DVD RCA ports for audio and video in , on the back of my AVR 1312 unit.
I do get sound, but no video.
When using the remote for the AVR 1312, I will get visual of things on the screen, but no video from dvd player.
I am usually pretty sauvy, but now completely confused
Thanks,
Jerry

Already Tried:
I have tried to change settings on TV to accept this device, it says no device found. I have tried changing out RCA cables with other RCA cables, and still only sound, no video.

Hi and welcome to JustAnswer,

Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only...

Initially, is the "...HDMI catv..", an HD cable box? Is yes, its model number please. Similarly, post back with the Vizio's model number.

Yes cable box is an HD box, model # XXXXX XXXXX Atlanta, Explorer 8300. The Vizio is E3D420VX.

Proposed connections:

  • • from the Explorer's HDMI output port to the Denon's HDMI IN SAT/CBL;
  • • from the Denon's HDMI OUT MONITOR to the Vizio's HDMI 1 input port;
  • • set the TV to HDMI 1 for cable TV viewing using the Vizio INPUT button;
  • • set the Denon's HDMI Audio Out to Amp (not TV) in MENU, Option Setup, Other Setup;
  • • from the Samsung VIDEO OUT V1 + ANALOG AUDIO OUT R1 & L1 to the Denon's VIDEO IN DVD + AUDIO IN DVD L & R;
  • • from the Denon's OUT MONITOR to the Vizio's AV + L-AUDIO-R;
  • • the above is necessary since the Denon would not upconvert analog input to HDMI/digital.

Please post back how things turned up and/or should the above be an acceptable approach.

Thank you for your input I have followed all the directions you mentioned and I still have no video from the dvd player I hooked up the yellow video out of the denon componet , but I am on sure where is the left and right white and red rca cables from the denon. Or is it simply just the yellow video cable from component to tv .
Thank you again

Just from the yellow jack of the Denon to the yellow jack of the Vizio; no red & white from the Denon to the Vizio.

Alternately, directly connect the Samsung's output yellow jack to the Vizio's input yellow jack.

Please post back results of the above.

Thank you again,
I made this connection, but still no video communication.
Also, while using the Netflix option on the tv, I can not get the sound through the Denon system yet .

With the yellow jack connections, was the TV set to AV1 (or AV2) using the TV remote's INPUT button pressed a couple of times? Similarly, ensure that the Denon is set to DVD.

For the Netflix, an additional connection from the TV's AUDIO OUT R & L to the Denon's unused AUDIO / DOCK input jacks. When playing Netflix, ensure that the Denon is set to DOCK.

Post back how things turned up and/or should additional information be still needed.

Great! Glad that the issue has been resolved, congratulations.

Knowing the particular model numbers helps in determining what are the available/best connection methods. In this instance, HDMI when able or analog as alternate.
