Customer Question

We are in the process of wiring up our basement before the drywall goes up. I want to know what wiring is needed and what equipment we will need to add another Bell HD receiver to our system. Currently we have 2 x HD PVR's and one satelite dish. What extra equipment will be needed?

Hi there and welcome to Just Answer. I will try and answer your question precisely and accurately.

Ok, you plan to add a TV and a satellite receiver.

Is the TV going to be mounted on the wall or on a cabinet or table?

Mounted on the wall. We are also debating between smart tv or boxee box as well. We have a conduit running behind the spray foam which is done. We also have a drop ceiling for running wires.

Ok, so for power you will want to put a 120V receptacle behind the TV and at 18" AFF (above finished floor level)

For signal/data, you will need another junction box behind the TV with a conduit going up to the ceiling and another conduit down to a box at 18" AFF (receptacle height).

It is against code to mix the 120V wiring and the low voltage wiring in the same box/raceway so run two identical but separate arrangements as described above.

All of your cable lines, ethernet, phone (if necessary) wires will enter the top of the conduit and you can take them to either the box behind the TV or to the floor.

Assuming that you will have a DirecTV box, you can feed the HDMI wires back up the conduit to the box behind the TV.

HDMI cables have 'fat' ends so you may want to consider a 1" pipe for the data/cable lines.

Does that help? I'll be here if you need more help.

Thanks.
